Eternal Life – What does the Bible mean about eternal life? PODCAST

Eternal Life = Without end What does the bible mean about eternal life?

John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

C. S. Lewis All that is not eternal is eternally out of date. Reginald Heber Eternity has no gray hairs! The flowers fade, the heart withers, man grows old and dies, the world lies down in the sepulchre of ages, but time writes no wrinkles on the brow of eternity. Maurice Maeterlinck Eternity is the ocean; time is the wave.

John 20:31but these are written ( the miracles) so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

This believing and knowing forms inseparable union. And the nature of God is one of everlasting love.

Rom 8: 38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things

to come, nor powers,39nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to

separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

How do we receive eternal life?

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see

life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John the Baptist)

Belief in Christ should produce an obedient lifestyle.

How can we know that we have eternal life?

1 John 5:13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know

that you have eternal life. Do you have that assurance today?

Harry Emerson Fosdick This was the strength of the first Christians, that they lived not in one world only, but in two, and found in consequence not tension alone, but power, the vision of a world unshaken and unshakable.

How do we receive it?

Rom 6: 23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Salvation is a one off experience a free gift, you cannot be saved over and over again.

The bible says believe and be baptized.. You cannot be unborn.

We have been saved by our saviour.

Rom 10:13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

A.W. TozerHow completely satisfying to turn from our limitations to a God who has none. Eternal years lie in his heart. For him time does not pass, it remains; and those who are in Christ share with him all the riches of limitless time and endless years.

What is the role of The Holy Spirit?

Eph 1:13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and

believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,14 who is the guarantee of our

inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Eph 4: 30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Consider the Fathers heart towards His prodigal son. Have we ever broken the Fathers heart?

God cannot break His word or promise. He cannot break His seal.

Phil 1: 6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at

the day of Jesus Christ.

When we lay hold of Jesus as our saviour he lays hold of us.

2 Tim 1:12 for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have

committed unto him against that day.

God wants you to possess Him not just profess Him.

Titus 1:16: They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works.

A backslider” Pro 14:14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:

The backsliding Christian will not be sent to Hell but there will be consequences.

Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

Consider a dog who loves to role in muck on the campo, regardless of how many times it gets showered and washed it continues to roll in the muck, its just what dogs do. And all us dog loving owners keep on repeating the process because you don,t want that smell in your house.

2Pe_2:22 The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

God hates sin and we have a responsibility to not be contaminated by it.

Gods desire is that the sweet fragrance of Jesus will surround our lives.

1Co_6:11 but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

A new birth will mean a new lifestyle a willingness to allow Him to be Lord of your life. To die to the old

nature and walk in obedience to His Word. To submit our lives to the refining work of the Holy Spirit.

It will mean walking a different road which may result in persecution, to go against the flow of an ungodly

world. To put our hands to the plough and not look back.

What are the results of sin in a believers life?

  1. The Lord says he will not hear our prayers Psalm 66:.
  2. We grieve the heart of God our Father
  3. God will allow trouble and sorrow and even death 1John 5:16 1 Cor 5:5
  4. We hinder others from being saved We become a stumbling block to others. 1 Cor 8:12
  5. Matt 18:6it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea
  6. We will lose our reward 1 Cor 3:13

The promises that result in eternal life?

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

John 8: 12“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Matt 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

John 10:10 I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

1 John 3: 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. `(The outward proof)

We are by nature children of wrath and heirs of death. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life, and he that believeth not hath the wrath of God abiding on him, Jn. 3:36 We have passed from death to life, from the guilt of death to the right of life; and this transition is made upon our believing in the Lord Jesus: How do we know this ? By our love to the brethren, which endorses and proves the reality of a changed heart and life.

Summary:

Thank God for our salvation and Everlasting life in Christ Jesus, for this inseparable union that has been sealed by the Holy Spirit. We need to move from confession to possession allowing our lives to be changed and transformed as those who set a good witness to others especially those who are young in the faith. The highest standard being our love for one another. For this to be realized

Lets do as Paul instructs:

Rom_12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
