Memorials to God

Memorials of God

Memorials of God

A reminder of Gods covenant.

    1SA 12:9 “But they forgot the LORD their God;

Memorials are so we shall not forget.

Gen 9:13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

There was a man who discovered a cure for amnesia, but he forgot what it was.

A filing cabinet is a place where things get lost alphabetically.

The things in life you can’t forget are the ones you hadn’t planned for.

When the danger is past, we often forget the God who helped us.

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.           Beryl Pfizer

Gods name itself is a memorial to who he is

EX 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.’ “15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, `The LORD, the God of your fathers–the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob–has sent me to you.‘ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.        Yehwah, Jehover or Lord.

Note: The name implies the absolute existence of God.

I am who I am declares his character and attributes

When you think of a name you think of the person, what does Gods name mean to people today?

The Sons of Israel

Ex 28:12 and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the LORD.

Gods commandments

Deut 6:6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

PR 7:3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

Crossing of the Jordon

Josh 4:7These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”

Lives can be as a memorial

Matt 26:6-13 I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

What had she done for her life to be a memorial?

The day of Atonement

Ex 30:16 It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, making atonement for your lives.”

This was the way that God maintained his relationship with his people, through the shedding of blood from a spotless lamb, ministered by the priesthood.

Jesus became the lamb and priest:

HEB 9:11 When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

The memorial of Communion

LK 22:19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

What do we remember  through this memorial?

The new covenant in Jesus blood —-   Assurance of forgiveness —-   The sacrifice of God

Work of atonement = to cover, make reconciliation, cleanse, ( pitch over the ark) — His return
